A bilateral DIEP flap reconstruction
Tissue from the abdomen, transferred to rebuild both breasts after nipple-sparing mastectomies.
This patient had bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomies with reconstruction using deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flaps — DIEP flaps.
The DIEP flap takes skin and fat from the lower abdomen and moves it to the chest with its own blood supply, leaving the abdominal muscle intact. It is the first option considered for most patients because the tissue tends to shape well and, being the patient’s own, the result is permanent.
Dr. Haddock has performed over 3,000 microvascular free flap breast reconstructions, with a success rate of approximately 99% across all flap types.
Figures in this entry are as of June 2024 and are not updated. Current figures are on the procedure pages.
