About

Nicholas T. Haddock, MD

Professor & Vice Chair, Business Affairs · Department of Plastic Surgery, UT Southwestern

Dr. Nicholas Haddock is a Professor and Vice Chair of Business Affairs in the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He is double board-certified and a national expert in cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery and microsurgery, offering state-of-the-art options — including several techniques he helped pioneer.

His approach is simple: individualize every treatment by fully understanding each patient’s needs through open, honest dialogue, and deliver it with care and compassion.

A native Texan, Dr. Haddock grew up in Fort Worth. He knew early that he wanted to be a surgeon. First, though, he earned a finance degree at the University of Texas at Austin — a deliberate choice to build a foundation in business and leadership and to understand the world more broadly before entering medicine. He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, graduating with high honors and election to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society.

Dr. Haddock completed six years of intensive plastic surgery training at NYU Langone’s Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery — widely regarded as one of the top programs in the world — where he was elected Executive Chief Resident. He then spent an additional year at the University of Pennsylvania in a fellowship focused on hand surgery, extremity reconstruction, microsurgery, and breast reconstruction, before bringing that expertise home to Texas.

Today at UT Southwestern, he has built one of the largest microsurgical breast-reconstruction experiences anywhere — more than 6,000 reconstructions — and a body of published research that surgeons worldwide cite.

That work has made him a sought-after teacher. He has served as a visiting professor at programs across the country and abroad, and is regularly invited to lecture at national and international meetings — including in Korea, Chile, Italy, Poland, Greece, Mexico, and Canada. Surgeons also travel to Dallas to observe his techniques firsthand.

Outside the operating room, Dr. Haddock is a husband and father of three. He enjoys staying active and watching sports — especially cheering on his University of Texas Longhorns.

I don’t believe surgical skill is fixed. The best outcomes come from deliberate practice — clear goals, honest feedback, and refining every step of an operation. I am always working to get better, because that is what my patients deserve.
