The 500th PAP flap

A profunda artery perforator flap rebuilds the breast using tissue from the back of the thigh (posterior thigh). This was the five hundredth.

Dr. Haddock marking the 500th PAP flap

Dr. Haddock completed his 500th profunda artery perforator (PAP) flap for breast reconstruction.

The PAP flap takes skin and fat from the posterior thigh and transfers it to the breast with its own blood supply. It is the option that matters most for patients who are too thin for abdominal tissue, or whose abdomen has already been used.

Volume is not the point in itself. It matters because it is what allows a team to refine each step of an operation, and because it means an unusual problem has usually been seen before.
