Robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy with PAP flap reconstruction, published

Reconstruction with a patient’s own tissue, through the same small incision in the armpit used for the mastectomy.

The published paper in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Dr. Haddock, Dr. Sumeet Teotia and Dr. Deborah Farr published a series on breast reconstruction following single-port robotic nipple‑sparing mastectomy, using profunda artery perforator flaps.

Reconstruction after a robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy has typically been done with implants. That is not always what a patient wants. The paper describes using the patient’s own tissue instead, brought in through the same incision in the armpit that the mastectomy already uses, rather than a separate one across the breast.

The series reviewed every patient treated this way at UT Southwestern between July 2022 and May 2023: six patients, three reconstructed immediately and three delayed-immediate, of whom three later had a revision with fat grafting.
